The 2,100 MW Tanjung Bin Coal Fired Power Plant is the first privately owned coal-fired power plant in Malaysia. It consumes various types of bituminous and sub-bituminous coal imported from Australia, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa and is installed with clean coal technologies including and electrostatic precipitator and flue gas desulphurisation units. The plant continues to play a critical coal in supplying power to the national grid.
